Do you associate a certain smell with a person?

If you know me, you know me to be a creature of habit. I don’t adapt to change easily.

I’ve worn the same cologne since the 1980’s.

 It’s Perry Ellis for Men. They don’t even make it anymore. 

When I need to stock up, we have to go to Ebay and purchase it from a private seller.

A woman friend of mine from way back suggested I wear it and I never stopped. 

Oh, the things we’ll do for women! That was 30+ years ago.

I love this scent because it’s very earthy.

It kinda reminds me of Balsa wood. 

It’s pure and masculine. 

If you were to ask “What does Lou smell like?” It would be that.

So when my wife got me a new cologne for Christmas, I was obviously shook. 

Was she trying to send me a message? She was tired of that aroma? 

We all know that a cologne smells differently on one person than it does on another. 

Did something change in my body chemistry?

After opening gifts and eating breakfast, I went for a shower, shave, etc. Afterwards, I applied the 

new fragrance. Surprise! I really liked it! But I wasn’t sure why? It reminded me of something?

I’ve worn it every day since. All the time trying to figure it out.

It smells clean. Very natural. It’s Versace for men. 

Now, you can smell just like me!

Then it hit me!

The scent is that of a cleanly bathed baby with baby powder. It takes me right back. 

To a place, a time, a person. 

For just a moment… to a simpler time. 

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
